“This is the Oscars for the interior design industry. We are so happy to be the recipients of this special recognition.”

WHAT IS THE BOY AWARD
Presented by Interior Design magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Cindy Allen, the annual international award honors architects, interior designers, and makers for their projects and products. This year’s 19th annual ceremony was held in Manhattan at BlackRock—a gorgeous venue that took home the BOY award in 2023.
Britto Charette competed alongside more than 1100 entrants in the project category and more than 700 in the products category. We are proud to have won the top prize for our Indianapolis project, along with being named honorees for our Ritz-Carlton Miami Beach Penthouse project, our Toulouse bench, and our Sanza coffee table.
“Entering the BEST OF YEAR contest allowed us to showcase our talent, vision, and skills to an international audience. And attending the awards ceremony in NY was a wonderful experience—a true celebration of beautiful design and of the people who work so hard to create it.”
--Pedro Cabas, principal of Britto Charette
BY THE NUMBERS
The Best Of Year award is truly an international representation of cutting-edge global design. 2024 saw an increase of 4.1% over last year’s entry numbers, with submissions from 43 countries.
THE PRIZE
This year’s trophy was created by 3form, a company specializing in using recycled resin to create design elements such as doors, room partitions, and ceiling features. We think it’s a gorgeous silhouette and it will have pride of place in our studio.

“Winning the award for our Indianapolis interior design validated the hard work we’ve put into each and every project. Hearing Cindy Allen call out Britto Charette as the winner truly made me feel like an integral part of the design community.”

THE WINNING PROJECT
Britto Charette designed the 7k sqft of award-winning interiors for a single-family detached home in Indianapolis. Our clients found our portfolio online and appreciated our modern approach to interior design. They tasked us with creating something in a similar vein for their Indianapolis home–a style very different from the status quo of the area. They emphasized their desire for a modern and inviting interior–nothing stark or cold. We were thrilled with the opportunity to complete this total gut and remodel for our wonderful clients.

Britto Charette renovated the primary bedroom and bathroom suites, the great room, family room, library, kitchen, dining room, foyer, walk-in closets, office, and the recreational areas (den, bar, lounge) and more. Our team cleaned up the entire footprint of the home, including floors, ceilings, wall coverings, staircases, custom millwork, and custom furniture.

DESIGN CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS
The design process posed some interesting challenges as some of the rooms were occupied during the renovation. We expanded the office (it’s 800 sqft) to include a lovely seating area and made major changes to the primary bedroom suite–which necessitated structural changes. The expansive room size and ceiling heights allowed us to
customize ceilings with designs that are now being emulated by our peers in the industry. Because our design was not typical for Indianapolis, we brought many of our own trades with us. Millwork, stone selections, special wallpaper installers, drapery installation, and custom framing for the shower door enclosures—those all posed unique challenges, so we used trusted trades/vendors. We opened walls to enlarge the rooms, created new ceilings, reconfigured the staircase, removed fireplaces, and completely reimagined the ground floor spaces.
“At Britto Charette, we pride ourselves on finding solutions for our clients. We aren’t just decorators. We understand all facets of the design process and we work with and for our clients to help them achieve the best design results based on their budget and identified needs.”

CUSTOM INTERIOR DECORATION
Ask any interior designer and they’ll tell you that furniture and accessory selection is one of the BEST parts of being a designer. It’s exciting to find a piece that fits the design just right. Our team members spend lots of time visiting showrooms, artists, and interior design tradeshows to specify the best products available. You’ll find us at Maison&Objet in Paris, Salone del Mobile in Milan, ICFF NY, and more.
The approach for this home was a modern palette of light wood tones and colors. We shopped at numerous galleries for the home, including in London, Paris, Milan, Miami, and NY. We added new lighting (FLOS); and hid mechanicals and incorporated linear diffusers in the millwork to make them disappear. We used stain-resistant fabrics, mohair, velvet, and boucle. The rugs were designed by Britto Charette and are made of wool and silk by Art&Loom. The walls have grass cloth wall coverings or vinyls that give the illusion of fabric, and the home is replete with beautiful custom millwork by EVM.
We specified many of our favorite brands, including Pierre Augustin Rose, Minotti, Waterbox, Nahoor, John De Merry, Philippe Hurel, Holly Hunt, studiotwentyseven, OKHA, Collection Particulière, Apparatus Studio, Jader Almeida, Christophe Gaignon, ARCA, Konekt, Articolo, Minotti, ENNE, Vismara, Elizabeth Thompson, Arravanti, Giovanni Rossi, Alireza Mohtashami, Gardeco, and more.
CUSTOM FURNITURE
Every Britto Charette interior design is unique, and we lean on our own ability to design custom furniture. Headboards, coffee tables, side tables, rugs and more are all important ways that our designers make our clients’ one-of-a-kind interiors truly special. INDIANAPOLIS was no exception, and includes many custom furnishings, including a gorgeous coffee table from our LUSSO furniture collection.

SPECIAL FEATURES
With a design this comprehensive and, let’s face it, luxurious, it can be difficult to single out elements for special mention because they ALL deserve special mention. But if you twist our arms, we’ll do a shout-out for the handcrafted-in-Italy custom pool table from the expert craftspeople at Vismara. It’s deliciously wrapped in leather and beckons players from an elevated area of the home’s entertainment zone.

Another standout design element? The foyer. It was a total transformation—taking what was previously just a wall with a regular 8’X3’ opening. We demolished an existing powder room to create a larger opening from the foyer to the hallway that connects it to the primary bedroom suite and library. This modification gave the foyer and adjacent rooms a sense of grandeur. We then relocated the powder room to afford guests greater privacy.

And we’re sending a HUGE thank you to the many trades, vendors, artists, and makers who helped us deliver this design to our clients.
